The most wonderful time of the year, just got a little more wonderful! The start of the holiday season also marks the beginning of engagement season, and proposal ideas are on the top of search lists.

It’s important to note that engagement season does not equal wedding season. Engagement season is the time of year where proposals are incredibly popular, while wedding season is a time for the actual nuptials.

Technically, engagement season starts around Thanksgiving and ends around Valentine’s Day. Although, December is the absolute peak of the proposal season. According to a study, 7 of the 10 most popular days to get engaged take place in December, alone!

Now that we are knee-deep in engagement season, it’s time to prepare to get down on one knee! Before we share with you some unique proposal ideas, let’s first get you ready to pop the question with these three tips. You only have one shot to get this proposal right, and we want to help you do that!

No. 1 The Perfect Ring

There are many things to consider when picking out the perfect ring for your partner: size, shape, color, karat, style, etc. If you didn’t have a candid conversation about potential rings for your partner, with your partner before the engagement, then you’re going to have to do some sleuthing. Search their Pinterest page for a “wedding” folder or enlist some good friends to get the tea! It’s also important to consider your partner’s personal style and taste. For instance, is the future spouse eco-conscious? If so, then you might want to opt for a lab-grown ring from companies like Brilliant Earth!

No. 2 – Scheduled to a “T”

Once you’ve got the ring, it’s time to schedule the proposal! You want to plan everything from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed on the night of your proposal. Make sure you have the reservations made, you’ve already booked the hidden photographer, and you’ve gone on walk-throughs of potential locations to find the perfect one – private is always best as it can allow you both to experience all of the emotions that come along with a proposal, without an audience (unless that’s your thing)!

No. 3 – Practice Makes Perfect

Whatever you do, don’t wing it! When you wing your proposal, you’re basically leaving the door wide open for mistakes and obstacles. You want this moment to go as smoothly as possible, and one of the best ways to make that happen is by practicing the proposal before you do it. Considerate it practice for writing your vows. Jot down what you want to say during the proposal, and practice reciting it to a picture of your partner. It’s no guarantee that the nerves won’t get to you when the time comes and you’ll recite your speech word-for-word, but at least you’ll have some idea of what you want to say.

Now that you’re ready for your proposal, it’s time to move on to the fun part! Thinking of proposal ideas! Here are five non-traditional proposal ideas to get those creative juices flowing!
